A Matter of Taste

From classic to contemporary, we explore Jersey’s best cooked secrets.

Jersey has long been a haven for those seeking natural beauty, but the island’s allure extends far beyond its scenic vistas. Its thriving food scene is constantly evolving, with new and exciting experiences regularly emerging.

The secret is out that the dining experiences found in Jersey are among the best you can squeeze into 45 square miles anywhere in the world. Exquisite dishes prepared using the freshest ingredients, sourced locally, and with minimal food miles are one of the reasons why dining on the island is so unique. These ingredients are celebrated on many local menus and play an essential role in the praise and accolades so many of Jersey’s restaurants have enjoyed on a national and international stage.

In the spring of 2019, the restaurants within Luxury Jersey Hotels, a consortium of several of the island’s top hotels, established the Taste Jersey food festival to celebrate the quality and uniqueness of Jersey’s produce and dining experiences.

Taste Jersey is more than a food festival; it’s an immersion into the island’s culinary soul. Patrick Burke, Chairman of LJH and owner of The Atlantic Hotel, envisions Jersey as a retreat for those seeking authentic and sustainable luxury: “Food is the cornerstone of our appeal, and Taste Jersey celebrates the island’s rich agricultural heritage in a manner that resonates with discerning travellers and those looking for sustainable experiences. We have big ambitions for Taste Jersey and, as a group, are committed to building on our successes and growing the festival each year.”

Taste Jersey is a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. It showcases the finest local produce, from the celebrated Jersey Royal potato to the freshest seafood to the island’s world-renowned dairy products, transformed into culinary masterpieces by several of the island’s most talented and celebrated chefs. Each restaurant contributes its unique interpretation of these popular ingredients, elevating the dining experience whether diners seek refined luxury dining or a more casual take on local favourites.

Leading Jersey’s fine dining experiences are Bohemia Restaurant, The Atlantic Hotel’s Ocean Restaurant, and Grand Jersey Hotel’s Tassili. Each restaurant has won numerous accolades over many years, making undeniable contributions to Jersey’s culinary prowess. These establishments, and those at the other Luxury Jersey Hotels properties, boast an impressive collection of AA Rosettes, a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence.

Dining experiences and events run throughout the festival, offering something for everyone, from fine vegan dining to wine tasting to shellfish demonstrations to kitchen tours and more. Taste Jersey’s signature event, Meet the Chefs, offers guests the chance to meet and engage with the culinary artisans leading Jersey’s top restaurants. This intimate event invites guests to sample a selection of specially crafted canapés that showcase Jersey’s finest ingredients and flavours.

Taste Jersey is an invitation to indulge in the island’s very essence. Overnight stay packages offer guests the chance to explore the island’s natural beauty and gain a greater appreciation of the landscapes and seascapes from which the island’s ingredients are sourced. Patrick Burke added, “In Jersey, when we describe dining experiences as field to fork and tide to table, we mean it, and there’s no better way to understand this than by seeing where ingredients are sourced firsthand.”

Luxury Jersey Hotels restaurants include Bohemia, Ocean Restaurant, Tassili, The Grill at L’Horizon Beach Hotel & Spa, The Bay Restaurant at St Brelade’s Bay Hotel, and La Terrasse at Hotel de France.
